Food delivery app, Cari has expanded its service to three countries in the Middle East with its latest launch in the UAE.
The company, which already operates in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, said restaurants will be required to pay zero percent commission for each order and can join the Cari app without paying any registration or renewal fees.
According to the firm, restaurants will only pay for the first customer through Cari while every subsequent order will be free of charge. Other key aspects of the company’s model include the promise of 30-minute, free delivery and guaranteed dine-in menu prices for the consumer.
The startup’s Founder and CEO Abdullah Al Mutawah previously set up a commission-based food delivery platform with his brother in 2016. While carriage was later acquired by Delivery Hero, Al Mutawa has said in interviews since that he has realized there are fundamental flaws to the traditional commission-based model.
Speaking on the launch of Cari, Al Mutawa said: “We believe in a more balanced and sustainable revenue model that benefits all parties involved in the ecosystem. Our zero percent commission model allows restaurants to keep their hard-earned profits and pass the savings directly to our customers. It’s a win-win disruption that we are already seeing resonate with our customers in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and we’re excited to extend these benefits to the UAE.”
