Walmart has announced it is expanding its retail data analytics platform to international markets beginning with Walmex in Mexico followed by Walmart Canada later this year.

Mirroring the strategy used in the U.S., the launch of the Walmart Luminate platform will take place in phases, starting with Shopper Behaviour followed by Channel Performance and Customer Perception, Mark Hardy, Head of Walmart Data Ventures said in an official blog post.

Through the platform, the retail giant is aiming to empower merchants and suppliers with a shared view of the customer and products – from the physical to the digital shelf. This includes real-time, consistent and flexible data which can be used for smarter insights and more personalised offerings.

Since the company launched Walmart Luminate, it has helped optimise retail strategies from product assortment to product development. A key part of its strategy was the acquisition of Volt Systems in 2022, which allowed it provide store operators with on-demand visibility to merchandising resources that help ensure customers can find the right product, in the right place, at the right time.

“At Walmart Data Ventures, our mission is to become a global leader in insights and analytics, and this expansion marks a pivotal moment on that journey. This also presents an incredible opportunity for our multi-market suppliers who will now be able to leverage our platform outside the U.S. and make an even greater impact in these markets,” Hardy said.
