Translink has announced it has completed the rollout of contactless payments across its entire network, enabling passengers to use this feature on all bus and train services.

The initiative, initially introduced by the Northern Ireland-based transport provider in March 2022, recently extended the system to its final routes marking a milestone in seamless travel payments in the region.

By adopting contactless payments the authority is aiming to boost public transport usage by offering a more efficient and convenient ticketing method. Additionally, it expected that reduced cash payments will accelerate boarding times.

The new system supports various payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, Visa, Mastercard (including Maestro), and prepaid contactless cards. The rollout coincides with the nearing completion of Belfast Grand Central Station, a £340 million hub, that will accommodate up to 20 million passenger journeys annually.
