Stripe has announced it will power payments for OpenAI’s technologies ChatGPT and DALL·E.
As part of the collaboration, OpenAI has launched a global payments system for a range of product lines it is commercializing, including its premium subscription offering, ChatGPT Plus, which is powered by Stripe Billing and Stripe Checkout.
Checkout’s prebuilt hosted payments page is being used by OpenAI to offer one-time purchases and monthly or usage-based subscriptions. Elsewhere, Stripe Billing has been built into DALL·E to offer users a flexible, pay-as-you-go option to purchase DALL·E credits. Its one-click checkout, Link has also been incorporated allowing OpenAI users to pay 40% faster on average by autofilling saved payment details, Stripe said.
In a statement, Peter Welinder, vice president of product and partnerships at OpenAI said, “We’re excited to work with Stripe to monetise our flagship products. Beyond payments, Stripe is helping us with everything from recurring billing and tax compliance to automating our financial operations.”
Meanwhile, Stripe is also incorporating OpenAI’s new natural language technology, GPT-4, into its own products and services. Last year, the company worked with Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI team to implement GPT-3 for Stripe Support, which is helping agents identify quicker resolution paths for the users they interact with each week.
It then joined the GPT-4 beta in January before releasing GPT-powered Stripe Docs, a tool that answers developer-based questions on integrating Stripe.
