Retail giant Spar is giving a new twist to AI-powered content in Slovenia with the launch of a virtual influencer called Sara.

The influencer, which offers advice for life and social issues, has been deployed by the retailer to social networks in a bid to connect with younger people, reportedly reaching 24,000 views on her TikTok profile @nerealna.sara in the first week.

Although Sara is created entirely virtually, behind its content is a team of real writers and creators. Among other things, Sara’s content touches on sustainability and new technologies while paying extra attention to the safe use of the Internet Spar said.

It added that the influencer has been created just like her peers from the “real” world and does not represent the “surrealist” ideals that are otherwise seen on social networks.

The concept follows several other AI-powered initiatives launched by the retailer recently including Jedilnik.AI and the SPAR Online Mirko smart basket.

This is a platform which uses an AI algorithm to look at customers buying habits and then suggest an online shopping basket, making online shopping faster and more convenient.

Additionally, Spar Austria recently launched an app that allows customers to use complex sales promotions in its stores without registering by name with the retailer. Once a customer has downloaded the app there is no mandatory requirement to to provide Spar Austria with their name, address, date of birth, e-mail address or other personal data.
