Mastercard and Last Mile Solutions have teamed up to launch a universal payment-terminal solution for EV charging in Europe.
In a statement, the firms said they are introducing a payment gateway to help electric vehicle Charge Point Operators (CPOs) streamline the charging experience and comply with EU regulation (AFIR).
Through the collaboration Mastercard and Last Mile Solutions are tapping further into a growing trend of electromobility across Europe, with charging infrastructure a critical issue. The gateway allows CPOs to integrate new or existing charging stations with a variety of payment terminal brands while simplifying onboarding and transaction processing. It will be rolled out across Europe before the EU AFIR regulation comes into force in April.
“The transition to the mass adoption of electric mobility is key to building a more sustainable world. Achieving this requires partnerships like these to make the transition as seamless as possible, not only for consumers but also for infrastructure operators,” said George Simon, Executive Vice President, Market Development Europe at Mastercard
The payment gateway follows the launch of ‘Pay to Drive’ by German-based Computop last month. Similarly, this integrated payment solution was introduced to give operators of charging stations a choice of flexible payment options via the Computop Paygate platform.
