Visa has launched its new Digital Emergency Card Replacement service with the aim of bringing travellers peace of mind by quickly delivering a digital card replacement on via text or email.

The launch of the service reflects the increasing importance of digital wallets as an essential part of the travel experience for many, with 74% of U.S. travelers now using them on their trips.

Once the text or email is received, cardholders can authenticate and immediately add the new card into their digital wallet, Visa said in a statement.

“We’ve all felt that moment of panic while on vacation – the loss of a card and the feeling of being stranded,” said Kathleen Pierce-Gilmore, global head of Issuing Solutions at Visa.

“Our new digital emergency card solution addresses these very issues. It offers instant, secure access to funds for travelers, while enabling issuers to deliver superior customer service. It’s a win-win, demonstrating the power of digital payments to improve experiences for everyone,” she added.

In addition to helping ensure access to digital cards, Visa has offered some tips for travellers to augment their use of digital payments. This includes pre-loading cards into digital wallets, staying informed and tracking sending activity by activating transaction alerts, reporting lost cards immediately, and contacting their card issuer before their trip to ensure the card will work in the countries to be visited.

The new enhancement to its Global Customer Assistance Services will provides an additional layer of support, complementing issuers’ own emergency services, Visa added.
