Oman-based digital bank, Sohar International has launched its Soft POS designed to allow businesses accept payments through their Android smart devices.

By downloading the Sohar International POS app, businesses can integrate their NFC-enabled Android devices, removing the need for traditional POS machines, the firm said in a statement.

Through the advancement, the bank is aiming to reduce procurement costs, streamline merchant onboarding processes and eliminate on-site installation and maintenance expenses. It is also targeting operational issues faced by merchants by removing the necessity of paper roll supply for traditional POS systems.

Speaking on the launch, Mr. Sajeel Bashiruddin, Chief Digital Officer at Sohar International, said: “In order to thrive, it’s imperative to extend payment methods beyond cash. The soft POS is not only meeting this imperative but also establishing a new benchmark for seamless and convenient payment solutions.”

He added: “At Sohar International, we are committed to driving digital transformation within the banking sector. With the introduction of Soft POS, the bank aims to catalyse growth and innovation for businesses, unlocking unprecedented levels of convenience and efficiency in their day-to-day operations.”
