E-commerce firm Shopify will soon introduce a new AI shopping assistant designed to make it easier for entrepreneurs to carry out essential steps when building a business.
The chatbot called “Sidekick”, was unveiled in a teaser video tweeted by Shopify CEO, Tobi Lütke on Wednesday. The assistant will be embedded as a feature on Shopify and answer merchant queries, including details about sales trends.
“Sidekick knows everything that Shopify knows. That includes how to design your store, that includes developer documentation and economic trends,” Lütke said.
“I can’t actually think of any corner of the internet that will benefit more from AI than the pursuit of people building their own business,” he added.
A host of other companies have added AI assistants in recent months building on the phenomenon of Open AI’s ChatGPT. Alibaba, Zoom and Databricks, for instance, have used the technology to improve the user experience.
This week Alphabet said it was rolling out its artificial-intelligence chatbot Bard in Europe and Brazil. Bard’s launch in the EU had been held up by local privacy regulators but Google said that regulatory concerns delaying the launch had been resolved.
