Qatar National Bank has inked a deal with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) to facilitate UPI payment acceptance across Qatar.

The QR code-based initiative, available across its merchant network, will target Indian travelers visiting and transiting through Qatar. It means Indian tourists will have the option to use their preferred payment method across retail stores, tourist attractions, leisure sites, duty-free shops and hotels.

By adopting UPI payments, local merchants will also have the abiltiy to offer a more more convenient payment and checkout process.

Mr. Adel Ali Al-Malki, Senior Executive Vice Present, QNB Group Retail Banking said: “We are thrilled to embark on this pioneering journey with NIPL to bring UPI payments to Qatar, setting a new standard in innovation in the region. With this new digital payment solution, we are revolutionising the way transactions are conducted, enhancing the travel experience like never before.

Earlier this year, QNB rolled out its virtual credit card designed to ensure a more seamless payment experience. In February, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) it launched the initial stage of a  new gateway that enables individuals and companies to pay fees for e-services provided by different government entities.
