Hiring for global AI-based roles has increased significantly in the last year reflecting the rapid spread of the phenomenon across the world of commerce in both the GCC and beyond.
That is according to new data from Deel, an all-in-one HR platform, that has taken a deeper look into whether the increased implementation of AI has translated into tangible job opportunities. The data reveals that AI-related jobs have surged globally, both in terms of individuals hired and organisations seeking to fill these positions.
Deel reports that as of September 2023, there were over 5,000 active contracts in the fields of AI, Data Science, and Software Engineering, with over 2,100 organisations actively participating in this hiring frenzy.

Among the key trends between September 2021-September 2023, there was a 59% increase in organisations hiring AI, Software Engineering, and Data Science roles while the number of such roles paid through Deel organisations grew 60%, the research found.
The United States dominated AI hiring, followed closely by Canada, the United Kingdom, and to a lesser extent, Germany. In fact, US companies are increasingly hiring AI talent in Brazil, Canada and Argentina with additional city hotspots for AI hires in Toronto (7% increase), Bangalore (3% increase) and London (3% increase).

According to the research, Canada actually led AI worker hires, followed by India, who is also leading the way in new AI roles. This includes positions such AI Engineer, AI Training Lead and AI Computer Vision Engineer, among others.
Meanwhile, when it came to salaries, this varied by region, but Latin America benefitted most from AI growth, with a modest—but steady—increase in average salaries over the year.
