Mastercard and Checkout.com have teamed up to enable instant wallet top-ups for Dubai-based super app Careem.
As part of the deal Careem Pay has integrated Mastercard Send, allowing users to access near real-time payments into their Careem Pay wallets. These funds can then be used for a range of the app’s daily services such as getting around, delivery and money transfer.
The integration with the financial technology arm of Careem is seeking to address time delays that come with conventional bank transfers. These can commonly take several hours to complete. The global Mastercard Send feature is also helping with improved payment flows in the UAE. This includes fast refund for marketplaces, disbursements for retail and delivery industries, and new P2P and international money transfer experiences.
Ahmed Salahy, Director, Strategic Partnerships at Careem Pay said in a statement: “The Mastercard Send solution will help Careem Pay fulfill part of our purpose and promise to customers to simplify their payment experiences and access to fintech products.”
To complete the integration, Mastercard collaborated with Checkout.com, a global payments solution provider (PSP) and the first PSP to secure an acquiring license from the UAE Central Bank.
“As one of the first Mastercard Send partners in the UAE, we will be able to offer advanced payment services to our customers and provide a seamless user experience during wallet top-ups,” Remo Giovanni Abbondandolo, General Manager for MENA at Checkout.com said.
Amnah Ajmal, Executive Vice President, Market Development, EEMEA at Mastercard, added: “We are delighted to join forces with Checkout.com and Careem to strengthen the presence of Mastercard Send in the region. In line with our commitment to driving digital transformation across the markets we serve, Mastercard is proactively working with our partners to enhance the choice of innovative payment options available to consumers.”
