Klarna has announced it has teamed up with OpenAI to bring smooth shopping to ChatGPT. The Swedish fintech said its new integrated plugin will provide users with shopping advice in the form of personalised, curated product recommendations.

Shoppers simply put their questions to the chatbot and are presented with product ideas and links to shop those products via Klarna’s search and compare tool. ChatGPT automatically chooses when to use the plugin based on the conversation. There is also the option to provide further prompts or request additional product recommendations, the firm said.

The plugin is set to be rolled out gradually, starting with ChatGPT Plus subscribers in the US and Canada before becoming more widely available over time.

Its introduction follows the recent launch of Klarna’s product search tool that lets users compare prices across multiple retailers, and enables shoppers to filter by color, size and customer ratings, among others.

“Klarna is in a unique position to leverage the best technology and data to help people discover new products and solve problems for consumers at every stage of the shopping journey,” said Sebastian Siemiatkowski, Co-founder and CEO of Klarna in a statement.

He added, “I’m super excited about our plugin with ChatGPT because it passes my ‘north star’ criteria that I call my ‘mom test’, i.e. would my mom understand and benefit from this. And it does because it’s easy to use and genuinely solves a tonne of problems – it drives tremendous value for everyone.”
