Online African marketplace, Jumia has named Hisham ElGabry as the company’s new CEO in Egypt.
ElGabry takes charge of Jumia’s operations in the country having led the company’s commercial team as Jumia Egypt’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) since 2022.
ElGabry carries 17 years of experience in the ecommerce and communication fields. Before joining Jumia, he was part of Amazon EU where he held several leadership positions including leading the UK fashion marketplace. Hisham also previously worked with Vodafone Group, managing global relationships with Apple and Samsung across multiple counries.
“E-commerce is growing very fast and Jumia Egypt will continue focusing on its unique strength points, most notably: striving for customer satisfaction, providing easy and safe payment methods, a strong partnership with local and international brands, banking services providers, as well as logistics partners,” ElGabry said in a statement.
He added, “I am proud to be working with the Jumia Egypt talented team, in whom I have infinite confidence that we will together achieve our goals for the coming period.”
Jumia’s e-commerce platform was launched in Nigeria in 2012 and has now operates across eleven countries including Egypt, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Kenya and South Africa.
It is built around a marketplace, logistics service and payment service. The logistics service enables the delivery of packages through a network of local partners while the payment services facilitate the payments of online transactions within Jumia’s ecosystem. It was also ranked as the number one retail e-commerce platform in Egypt by Ipsos in 2021 and 2022.
