Convenience retailer, Co-op has said it will ‘deliver’ cashback rewards for its members and their communities, as part of a first deal of its kind for Uber Eats in the UK.

Under the expanded partnership, existing rewards for those who shop in store and through Co-op’s own online shop have been expanded to members making purchases through the Uber Eats app. At checkout, shoppers must add their Co-op Membership number into the Uber Eats app to activate the new feature.

Co-op initially partnered with Uber Eats in 2022 to expand its online delivery model. It said the programme is being rolled out to over 1,000 Co-op stores this month.

Chris Conway, Co-op’s eCommerce Director, said: “Our ambition to grow our membership base by one million over the next five years is supported by our compelling member-benefits programme. Our members lie at the very heart of the Co-op, and by building on our successful partnership with Uber Eats we are now able to create additional value for our members and for local communities.”

When purchasing selected Co-op groceries, members can earn 2p in every pound spent on own-brand products with the convenience The firm has listed such community causes as bringing people together to access food; helping to improve people’s mental wellbeing; the creation of opportunities for young people to be heard and enabling communities to save and restore nature or tackle climate change.

Co-op members will have the ability to choose or change the cause they support locally, through Co-op’s Membership app.

Alex Troughton, Head of Commerce at Uber Eats UK, added: “It’s great to be able to build on our successful partnership with Co-op, and join forces to allow its members to earn rewards, and support local community causes and organisations when they use Uber Eats. This is all about using our unique technology to deliver exactly what people want, when they want it and enable them to help out community causes that matter to them.”
