Amazon has announced plans to launch a new dedicated online store in Ireland as the firm continues to ramp up its global localisation efforts.

In an official blog post, the firm said the new Amazon.ie online store will launch in 2025 featuring an increased range of products from Irish businesses. While many people in Ireland already shop on Amazon stores in other countries, this localised version is expected to enable faster deliveries and returns with low, local prices, and without additional customs charges, the firm said.

The moves comes as Amazon continues to cater its platform for more local markets. Only last week, it finally went live in South Africa, making it the second African country after Egypt where the e-commerce giant has set up a locally-dedicated website. The Irish store also follows the launch of Amazon’s first fulfilment centre in Dublin in 2022 which allowed the firm offer One-Day Delivery on a wide range of products.

“The launch of Amazon.ie will be great news for Irish customers and we’re looking forward to opening its virtual doors in 2025″ said John Boumphrey, Ireland & UK Country Manager at Amazon.

He added: “This underscores our continued commitment to Ireland, and will bring a wide selection of great value products with fast delivery to Irish customers, as well as provide great opportunities for small and medium-sized Irish businesses to reach a bigger audience at home and abroad.”

There are over 1,000 small and medium-sized Irish enterprises (SMEs) already selling on Amazon, with reportedly generating over €150 million in export sales in 2022 alone. The new store will also be supported a five-year agreement that An Post and Amazon announced last year.

Amazon already has a rich history in Ireland, and employs around 6,500 people in Cork, Dublin, and Drogheda in a diverse range of roles including data engineers, operations management, and finance –supporting an additional 9,000 jobs in the wider Irish economy.
